April 27, 2018

We dream when we are just a small child about the possibilities of life.  A young man's dream to fight for his country or maybe it's a dream to become a professional athlete.  Young girls have the same dreams, we may add some detail and color to our dreams but they don't necessarily differ from our brothers.  The common theme among our childhood dreams is that most often we are driven by wanting to please someone.  Could be our...

Stage 5 of the Tour of the Gila began with lots of carbs, coffee, and Topical Edge.  The team was vigilant of the early breakaways for the first part of the day.  A big group got away but the field didn’t like the combination up the road so kept the leash short all day.  Coming into the first big climb of the day, the team kept Brett Wachtendorf and Sean Gardner in perfect positio...

Crit Day is always nice...everyone gets to sleep in, go for a nice easy spin in the morning, take in a nap and basically relax before the late afternoon race.

The Downtown Silver City Criterium at the Tour of the Gila was 40 laps of a 1.08 mile four corner rectangular course with about 80 feet of climbing per lap.

With the current GC situation a field sprint was the most likely outcom...

Race Report:  Matt Zimmer

Today the guys took on the Tyrone Individual Time Trial. The course was 26km (16.16 mi) with two categorized climbs totaling 362 meters (1,188) of climbing.  Today, the wind was the biggest challenge. With south/southwest winds gusting up to 50 kph, it was a grueling uphill headwind start. Sean Gardner had a great ride covering the course in 36:59 ea...

Today Tour of the Gila pace started out fast today with a sprint point coming 9km into the race and shortly after the first KOM at 18km.  The pace, along with the wind, made for a difficult climb to the first KOM, where the break was established. The break consisted of 5 riders.  UHC, Jelly Belly, Axeon, and 303 were represented.  The day long break prevailed to the finish where Chri...

Straight forward day, typical Tour of the Gila opener. Started off fast and furious until the breakaway of the day rolled away. Keeping ourselves well hydrated and eating enough to have energy towards the finish was the key for the next few hours, thank you Hammer Nutrition. The Gateway Harley Davidson Trek Development Team did a great support job for Sean Gardner and Brett Wachtendorf.  T...

Thank you Snowy Mountain Photography for all you give to the sport!

That is a wrap on getting our first PRT under our belt for the Gateway Harley-Davidson Trek Development Team.  The Joe Martin Stage Race was a fun and like we expect, a strong learning experience for the team.  Scott Mcgill finished up 6th and Evan Bausbacher 22nd in the U23 GC.  Matt Zimmer was 17th and Scott Mcgill was 20th in the overall GC.  Congratulations t...

Today's Joe Martin Stage Race course was a 3.0 mile / 4.84 kilometer climb out of Devil’s Den State Park. The road was a steady climb 725 feet to the finish with an average grade of 5%, with most of the climb at 6% to 8%.  A power climbers delight, maybe?

Scott Mcgill hung onto to his U23 6th position and Matt Zimmer had the best Gateway Harley-Davidson Trek Development Team time of the day!

Thank you Joel Yates for the twitter feed today and the help with the race recap!

Team plan for the day was to set up either Scott Mcgill or Dennis Ramirez for the final and to make sure communication and positioning in the front of the pack was better than yesterday.

The day begun with a flurry of attacks as expected with all the teams looking to take advantage of Holowesko Citadel having...
